When your payroll is processed through a payroll vendor, you can import it as journal entries. Payroll salaries can be consolidated on import so individual salaries are not logged in transactions.
Create Import File
The columns available and required fields for the journal entry import are outlined in Accounting: Import Fields.
Create and save a spreadsheet with your journal entry data. This will generally require at least three transactions: net payroll, taxes, and vendor fees. Depending on how your payroll vendor provides information, you may have additional items such as insurance, retirement, and organizational donations.
The file can be saved as a .csv, .tsv, .xls, .xlsx, .xml, or .txt format.
Headers are optional when creating the file. If you include them, they do not have to be an exact match. You'll have an opportunity to match your data to the appropriate columns during the import.
