Custom fields record additional information about opportunities. Event date and target audience are some examples of custom fields that can be added to opportunities.
Create a Custom Field
- Navigate to Fundraising and click Custom Fields on the navigation bar.
- Click Create Custom Field, and then click Opportunity.
- Enter the Custom Fields applicable information, and then click Create Opportunity Custom Field. Asterisks indicated required fields.
- Label - The name of the custom field.
- Instructions - Instructions for completing the custom field.
- Type - Determines how the information for the custom field will be captured. There are four types.
- Text Box - An open-ended way of capturing specific information.
- A text box type could also act as a note for the opportunity; however, a notes section is already provided.
- Dropdown - Predetermined specific information you would like to gather by creating selection options.
- Checkbox List - Allows you to predetermine specific information you would like to gather by creating options for multiple selections.
- Examples: Donor status, member status, volunteer interest, or first time visitor status.
- Date - Captures specific date information by using a calendar option that allows you to select month, day, and year.
- Text Box - An open-ended way of capturing specific information.
- Required - Check this box if the custom field will be required.
- Opportunity Type - Select the opportunity types on which the custom field can be displayed.
- Multiple opportunity types can be selected.
- Opportunity Types are set up in Opportunity Configurations.
- Opportunity types are grouped by the opportunity categories of fundraising and grantseeking.
Add Custom Fields to an Opportunity
- Navigate to Fundraising and click Opportunities on the navigation bar.
- Click either the Fundraising or Grantseeking tab.
- Click the opportunity name.
- Click Edit.
- Enter the applicable custom field information, then click Update.
- Only custom fields that have been set for the selected opportunity will display in the list on the Details tab.
- Some custom fields can be set to display on all opportunity types while others can be set to display on only a few.
- In the screenshot below, Event Date is a required custom field for opportunities whose Type is Event.

The custom field displays within the Details tab of an opportunity.
Edit and View a Custom Field
- Navigate to Fundraising and click Custom Fields on the navigation bar.
- Click the custom field label.
- Click any column header to sort or type the name into the search bar.
- Click any column header to sort or type the name into the search bar.
- Click Edit.
- Edit the custom field, and then click Update.
- The custom field Type cannot be edited. If you wish to change the custom field type, you will need to create a new custom field.

Inactivate Opportunity Custom Fields
When a custom field is inactivated, it will no longer be visible when creating or viewing an opportunity.
Inactivate from the Opportunity Custom Fields Page
- Navigate to Fundraising and click Custom Fields on the navigation bar.
- Click the toggle in the Active column of the custom field you want to inactivate.
- When a custom field is inactivated, the custom field will be removed from the list of active custom fields.
- When a custom field is inactivated, the custom field will be removed from the list of active custom fields.
Inactivate within the Custom Field
- Navigate to Fundraising and click Custom Fields on the navigation bar.
- Click the Opportunity tab.
- Click the custom field label of the custom field you want to inactivate.
- Click Edit.
- Uncheck the Active box, and then click Update.
