Testing eligibility rules allows you to verify that eligibility rules function as intended across opportunities in a universe. After configuring eligibility rules, test the eligibility rules to simulate applicant responses and confirm which opportunities appear as eligible based on different answer combinations.

When to Test Eligibility Rules
Test eligibility rules to:
- Verify eligibility rules work correctly before opening a universe to applicants
- Confirm rule changes produce expected results after updates
- Troubleshoot why specific opportunities appear or don't appear for certain applicant profiles
- Test complex rule combinations across multiple opportunities
This article is in reference to the Universal Application feature. If you use the Eligibility Quiz feature instead, refer to Test Eligibility Rules.
After configuring your eligibility rules, the Test Eligibility page allows you to test the rules, ensuring that they work as intended across your opportunities.
- Click Tools on the upper navigation bar, and then click Process Manager.
- Click the universe name.
- Click the Eligibility tab.
- Click Test Eligibility.
- Enter the criteria for the eligibility rules, and then click Test Answers.
- All common questions appear on the Test Eligibility page, even if there are no eligibility rules associated with the question.
- Supplemental questions do not appear on the Test Eligibility page.
- All questions on this page do not have to be filled out in order to test, even if the questions are actually required on the application form.

Consider the questions that will be answered carefully so an accurate test can be performed. Answer all questions that are involved with the eligibility rules being tested.
- Icons will appear in the Eligible column in the upper-right corner based on the answers provided.
- All opportunities should have a red icon when the Eligibility Rule Tester is first clicked. This indicates that all opportunities have a rule configured with them.

Upon answering the qualifying questions in the common application and selecting Test Answers, the opportunity should appear with a green checkmark icon. This means that based on the answers provided, eligibility has been met for that opportunity.

If the scholarship opportunity does not change to the green checkmark after selecting Test Answers, this indicates ineligibility based on the answers provided. Click the eye icon to see the Eligibility Rules: NOT ELIGIBLE pop-up.

- At this point, the answer in the application can be changed if the selection was incorrect, or return to the eligibility rules and correct the rule that was built out.
