The Foundant Fund Manager app is a mobile app for iOS and Android that lets your organization's fund advisors manage their funds from their smartphones, including viewing balances, making donations to their advised fund, requesting grants, and accessing their tax receipts. The app connects directly to CommunitySuite and mirrors core Portal functionality in a mobile-native format.
Who: Donor development and fund relationship teams that currently manage fund advisors via the Portal.
When to Use the Foundant Fund Manager App
Use the Foundant Fund Manager app when:
- Your organization wants to offer a mobile-first way for fund advisors to manage their funds, for example at an event or while traveling.
- Fund advisors want to view fund balances, request a grant, make a donation to their fund, or download a tax receipt from the ease of their phone.
- A fund advisor wants the ability to make grant recommendations on the spot, capturing moments of inspiration like year-end giving or a conversation with a nonprofit at a networking event.
Foundant Fund Manager App Overview Video
The following video provides an overview of the Foundant Fund Manager App.
Set Up and Manage the App
Initial Set Up and Branding
During initial setup, your organization provides branding assets to Foundant so that the app can be styled to your organization's logo and colors. The app icon can also be customized on the device's homescreen. The app is owned and managed by Foundant, and after purchase, can be connected to your site and branded to your organization. In the Apple App Store or Google Play, the app is listed as Foundant Fund Manager.
While onboarding, your organization will receive a QR code that connects your CommunitySuite site to the app, applies your organization's branding, and allows fund advisors to log in. Sub-organizations and affiliates will share the parent organization's branding. Once fund advisors download the app, scan the QR code, and log in for the first time, the app will rebrand to your organization.
How Fund Advisor Permissions Sync to the App
Fund advisor permissions sync automatically from those set in CommunitySuite for the Portal. A fund advisor sees the same access in the app that they have in the Portal, so no separate app-level permission setup is required. A permission or fund change made in CommunitySuite will appear upon refreshing the app by pulling the screen down until a loading icon is visible, or at the next login. Review Fund settings, Fund Advisor permissions, and Portal settings in CommunitySuite to ensure the app is behaving as expected.
Fund advisors sign in with their existing Portal login credentials. A separate app login is not created.
For Fund Advisors: Download and Sign In to the App
The section below provides your organization with instructions for your fund advisors to get access to the app. Fund advisors will need to search for "Foundant Fund Manager" in either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to find and download the app initially, but once it is downloaded and they log in for the first time, the app experience is then branded to your organization's logo and colors. This includes the mobile app icon that will display on their phone.
To download and sign in to the Foundant Fund Manager app:
- Search for Foundant Fund Manager in the Apple App Store or Google Play, and then download the app.
- Open the app and scan the QR code provided by a representative from your organization.
- The QR code links the app to the foundation's site and applies the foundation's branding automatically.
- Foundant Support will not provide this QR code directly to fund advisors.
- The app will confirm this change to the mobile icon once the QR code is scanned.
- Sign in using the same credentials used for the Portal.
- Fund advisors will already need to have a profile with the fund advisor designation and have logged in to the Portal before accessing the app.
- If the site has Two-Factor Login enabled, the app displays the PIN entry screen. CommunitySuite delivers the PIN by email, phone, or in a configured authentication app; the app does not control or allow edits to the MFA delivery method. Updates to MFA must be completed in the Portal.
Turn On Face ID or Fingerprint Login
If the advisor wishes to use biometric logins, the app supports these features.
To turn on biometric login for the Foundant Fund Manager app:
- From the app, sign in with a password the first time.
- Follow the prompt to enable Face ID or fingerprint login.
Biometrics can also be enabled once logged in by tapping the user icon in the upper right-hand corner and selecting Face ID / Touch ID Sign-In. Once enabled, the fund advisor can sign in using Face ID or a fingerprint instead of a password.
View Fund Balance and Switch Funds
The Home screen displays the current fund balance and recent activity such as pending grant requests and recent grantees. It will also display the fund's spendable balance or available cash if that is enabled in CommunitySuite.
If a fund advisor has access to more than one fund, tap the fund name to switch between funds.
Users can log out at any time by tapping the icon with their initials in the upper right corner of the screen and selecting the option to log out.
Create a Grant Request
Fund advisors can search for a grantee and submit a grant request from the Granting tab of the Foundant Fund Manager app. Search results include your organization's own grantee records, other funds at your organization, and, depending on your site's settings, an external source such as Guidestar or Grant Connect. Frequently Asked Questions
The following section addresses questions clients may have about the Foundant Fund Manager app.
Does a Fund Advisor Need a Separate Login for the App?
No. Fund advisors sign in with the same credentials they use for the Portal.
Do Fund Advisor Permissions in the App Match Their Permissions in the Portal?
Yes. Permissions carry over consistently across the app, the Portal, and CommunitySuite.
What Can Fund Advisors Do in the Portal That They Cannot Do in the App?
The Foundant Fund Manager app does not include vouchers, invoices, voucher requests, scholarships, or the grant catalog, and it does not support linked or shared logins. Aside from advisor tax receipts and contributions, no other Portal information appears in the app, including grants made to the fund, scholarship or student information, payments and checks, invoices and invoice payments, financial reports, investment information, or pledges and pledge payments. Fund advisors can contribute to funds they advise and create grant requests, based on their existing permissions. For full Portal capabilities, visit the web version of the Portal.
Can a Fund Advisor Use the App for More Than One Organization?
Yes. A fund advisor working with more than one organization needs to uninstall and reinstall the app, then sign in with that organization's credentials. A fund advisor managing multiple funds within the same organization can switch between those funds directly in the app, without signing out.
Is Information in the App Always Current with CommunitySuite?
Current balance and activity update at login or when the fund advisor refreshes the app, so this reflects CommunitySuite in near real time. Balance history shows the last twelve months of fund balance, taken from when the books were last closed.
Can the App's Branding be Updated After Launch?
Yes. To update your branding, reach out to the Support team to provide updated assets the same way you did during initial setup and onboarding of the app.
