Opportunity types are customizable and allow you to set goals or desired outcomes for your organization. Opportunity stages are also customizable and allow you to set the stages in the lifecycle towards the goal. Opportunity types and stages tell a user where they currently are at in a particular relationship lifecycle. Notes document how you have reached this stage, and tasks outline next steps.

Edit Opportunity Types
Opportunity types and stage names can be edited and deleted, and stages can be reordered. Any edits will apply to opportunities that have been created. For instance, Bob Smith has an opportunity with type Gift Solicitation. If Gift Solicitation is edited to New Fund Solicitation, it will impact Bob's opportunity record and any other Gift Solicitation opportunity records. The same applies when editing stages.
Opportunity types or stages that are currently applied to any opportunity records cannot be deleted. For instance, if Bob's opportunity is currently in the Cultivate stage, that stage cannot be deleted.
Sites have default opportunity types and stages which can be edited and deleted to fit the foundation's needs.
