Donations, pledges, and promises can be linked to opportunities. Multiple donations and/or pledges and/or promises can be linked to one opportunity.
Donations will decrease the balance in the opportunity. Pledges and promises will not decrease the opportunity balance. Their associated payments will decrease the opportunity balance.
Example
This opportunity has a balance of $25,000, and no donations or pledges have been linked.
Link a Donation
- After a donation has been entered, click Link next to the Opportunity field in the References tab of the donation record.
- If the open opportunity is under the same profile as the donation, click Link. If it's on another profile, manually type in the opportunity ID number and click Link in the Manually Link Opportunity section.
Donations can also be linked to an opportunity, pledge, or promise while the donation is being entered. After creation, all linked items will populate in the References tab of the donation record.
Link a Pledge or Promise
After a pledge has been posted, or a promise has been committed, a Link Open Opportunity box will appear. This will display all open opportunities on the record the donation or pledge was posted to. Pledges and promises can only be linked to opportunities that are under the same profile as the pledge or promise.
Click the blue Link option on the right-hand side. Selecting this will link the pledge or promise to the opportunity.
Results
Both the donation and promise from the above examples are linked to the opportunity and are listed below any Opportunity and Tasks. The donation has decreased the opportunity balance. Any future payments on the promise will decrease the opportunity balance.
