CommunitySuite uses Google's CAPTCHA to help secure the login process. Some users occasionally see a picture-based CAPTCHA challenge appear one or more times during login before reaching the authenticator or PIN step. This occurs when Google's scoring system flags a login attempt for additional verification. It does not affect all users or every login attempt.
Who: All CommunitySuite users logging into the system.
Why CAPTCHA Appears During CommunitySuite Login
CommunitySuite login is protected by Google's CAPTCHA, and Foundant does not control how it functions. When a user connects to the CommunitySuite URL, the login defaults to Google's V3 CAPTCHA. V3 CAPTCHA runs invisibly and scores the login attempt on a 0.0 to 1.0 scale to estimate how likely the user is a human, where a score of 1.0 is least likely to be a bot. When a score is low enough, Google's V2 CAPTCHA appears instead, which is the picture-selection challenge.
The score levels are listed below:
- High score (0.7–1.0) - The login attempt is treated as a normal human interaction and typically proceeds without a picture challenge.
- Medium score (0.3–0.6) - The login attempt carries a moderate risk rating, which can result in additional verification.
- Low score (0.0–0.2) - The login attempt is treated as higher risk, which can result in a repeating or difficult picture challenge.
A few factors influence a CAPTCHA score during CommunitySuite login:
- Browser behavior - Normal browsing patterns, such as moving the mouse naturally or navigating with browser history, are associated with a higher score. Sudden mouse movements or clicking quickly can lower a score.
- IP address reputation - Logging in over a VPN, proxy server, or shared network such as public Wi-Fi can lower a score, since the IP address may be flagged by Google.
- Google account status - Being signed into a Google account in the browser generally increases trust and can result in a higher score.
Scores are not permanent. Google continuously measures interactions, and behavior recognized as human tends to raise a CAPTCHA score over time, which reduces how often the picture challenge appears during CommunitySuite login.
Check Your Current CAPTCHA Score
Third-party tools such as the reCAPTCHA v3 Score Detector or the CleanTalk reCAPTCHA Test can provide an indication of a current CAPTCHA score. These tools simulate a validation request to Google and display a result on the same 0.0 to 1.0 scale, where a higher number reflects a more trusted interaction. These tools are not affiliated with Foundant or Google, so results should be treated as a general indicator rather than an exact measurement.
Tips That May Reduce CAPTCHA Prompts
A few adjustments may help raise a CAPTCHA score and reduce how often the picture challenge appears during CommunitySuite login:
- Avoid logging in over a VPN, proxy server, or shared public network when possible.
- It is recommended to sign in to a Google account in the browser before logging into CommunitySuite.
- Normal browsing behavior, such as moving the mouse naturally rather than clicking quickly, is associated with a higher score.
Since Google manages CAPTCHA scoring, Foundant cannot disable it or control how frequently it appears for a specific site or user. Google assigns a score to each individual login attempt rather than to an organization as a whole, so colleagues logging in at the same time can have different experiences.
