Connect to GLM and SLM OData Feeds
An OData feed is a REST-based connection in Grant Lifecycle Manager (GLM) and Scholarship Lifecycle Manager (SLM) that lets you pull your own data into tools such as Excel and Power BI. Once connected, the feed refreshes on a schedule, so you can build and maintain reports and dashboards without requesting a custom export.
User Role: Administrator, Grants Manager
When to Use an OData Feed
Use an OData feed when:
- Custom reports or dashboards need to be built in Excel or Power BI.
- Data should refresh automatically instead of requiring a new export each time.
- GLM or SLM data needs to be combined with data from other systems for broader analysis.
Eligibility and Licensing
OData access requires the Advanced license and is not available on other tiers. There is no additional usage-based cost, since access is included with the Advanced license.
- GLM and SLM each have their own separate feed and base URL.
- Access is limited to the product or products you are licensed for. A GLM connector key does not work against the SLM feed, and an SLM connector key does not work against the GLM feed.
- No setup is required beyond having an Advanced license. Each site generates and manages its own connector key.
Generate a Connector Key
Generate an OData connector key from within Settings in your GLM or SLM site. This credential is generated and managed entirely within your site.
Find Your Base URL
Use the base URL that matches the product you are licensed for.
| Product | Base URL |
|---|---|
| GLM | my.data.grantinterface.com/glm |
| SLM | my.data.grantinterface.com/slm |
The two base URLs are not interchangeable for a given site.
Connect with a Reporting Tool
Power BI
Power BI includes a native OData Feed connector.
- Large datasets are paginated automatically, so no extra configuration is needed.
- A Navigator screen displays available data types before import.
Excel
Excel typically connects using the From Web connector.
- This connector does not paginate automatically.
- Larger datasets need a manual pagination script.
Limit the Amount of Data Returned
Limit the size of a data pull in one of two ways:
- Append
$top=<number>to the endpoint, for example:.../glm/application?$top=50000 - Use
Table.FirstNin Power Query as a client-side alternative.
Set Up Automatic Refresh
- Publishing to Power BI Service with a refresh schedule configured updates the feed automatically.
- A Power BI Desktop-only pull is a one-time snapshot. It updates only when manually refreshed.
Determine Whether an Issue Is a Connection Issue or a Query Issue
Use the following to help narrow down where a problem is coming from before troubleshooting further.
It is likely a connection issue if:
- The connector will not authenticate.
- An endpoint returns a 404 error.
- The feed returns no data, or returns errors.
- Pagination is missing rows.
It is likely a query issue if:
- The connection works and data is present, but a specific formula, filter, pivot, or visual is not producing the expected result.
Get Help from Support
Support can confirm that the OData feed is available, authenticating, and returning data correctly. Writing, debugging, or troubleshooting a specific Power Query, DAX, or Excel formula is outside Support's scope. An AI tool, such as Copilot, is a good resource for building or troubleshooting a specific query.
