The system records people in both individual and household profiles. A couple can have a household profile and individual profiles for each person. When this occurs, it is referred to as the household trifecta, and it allows flexibility to record an item, such as a note or a donation, on the appropriate entity. For example, a couple may give jointly with those donations being recorded on the couple. One member may establish a fund separately from the other household member, and donations and fund advisor information related to that fund can be listed under the individual. Cumulative giving from the household and household members is visible on the household profile and is available in reporting.
It is possible to have a household profile without individual members if there is no need for the members to have their own profiles. It is also possible to have an individual who is part of a couple that is not linked to a household if the household is not in the system.
When there is both an individual and household profile in your site, it is recommended to connect them using the household/household member relationship structure, which streamlines communications and reporting on cumulative giving.

Household/Member Relationship
Individual profiles can be connected to households as household members. This forms what the system calls the household trifecta and enables organizations to track donations, notes, grant requests, opportunities, etc. on the appropriate profile for either the individual or household. Connecting households and members in this way offers key benefits.
- Donations from the household and all household members are visible on the household donor designation. The Donor Rollup Report reports donations consolidated by household and members.
- It is easier to ensure that a household and its members are not both on the same communication list.

- Enter the profile name in the Individual field and select the name from the drop-down list.
The member will now be listed on the household profile.
Parent/Child Relationship
When an organization is a parent to one or more organizations, the grant and donation activity from both the parent and child are displayed on the parent profile much like the household/household member relationship.
Information about how to create and use profile fund categories can be found in Parent/Child Org Relationship.
Profile Fund Categories
Profile Fund Categories connect profiles to funds for viewing and reporting purposes. The categories are user defined, so organizations can create the categories they need.
