Organization profiles can be connected by a parent/child relationship. When an organization is a parent to one or more organizations, the grant and donation activity from both the parent and child are displayed on the parent profile much like the household/household member relationship. Several instances exist where this type of setup can be beneficial.
- A university and many of its departments each have a profile so that grants and scholarships can be tracked by department.
- A bank has many branches that donate to the foundation. Using a parent/child relationship allows the donation to be processed under the appropriate branch, but cumulative giving can be viewed.
-
If a foundation has several of boards or committees, they could create separate child org profiles for each board/committee. By using org roles to link the the board/committee members to the child organization, a user can easily differentiate members per board/committee.
Below is an example where grant history for a parent and child are both represented on the parent profile.
The parent child summary is for viewing. It is not reflected in reporting. To pull cumulative grants or donations grouped by parent/child, consider applying a unique profile type or custom field to designate all profiles in the parent/child relationship structure. Reporting on cumulative grants or donations using the profile type or custom field is then possible.
