There are two 1099 reports in CommunitySuite: the NEC (non-employment compensation) and the MISC (miscellaneous). The NEC form is for non-employees or private contractors who have earned over $600 from your organization, and MISC is for everything else.
Vendor Profile and Expense Account Setup
The vendor profile and the expense account that will be used for the 1099 report need to be set up for the report to run. If the vendor profile and expense account are already set up, then begin at the Run a 1099 Report section.
Vendor Profile Setup
- Navigate to the Vendors page.
- Enter the vendor name in the Search Vendor field and select the vendor from the drop-down list.
- Click Edit in the left-side menu.
- Check the Need 1099 box, and then click Save.
Expense Account Setup
- Navigate to the Accounts page.
- Click the account number of the expense account to be set up.
- Click Edit in the left-side menu.
- Select the IRS 1099 Field code from the drop-down menu, and then click Save.
- The NEC code is for the NEC report. All the other codes are for the MISC report.

Run a 1099 Report
- Navigate to the 1099 Report page.
- Complete the applicable 1099 Report Date Range information, and then click Create Report.
- Division, Start Date, End Date, and IRS 1099 Type are required fields.
- Division - If your organization has set up divisions for separate entities in the system, use the drop-down menu to select by division or select All Divisions to include all of them.

The IRS 1099 Type - Select nec or misc from the drop-down menu.
Click Export in the left-side menu to export the report to a third party spreadsheet.
The report will list the vouchers by vendor. If there are multiple vouchers per vendor, click the Profile ID of the vendor to see the list of vouchers attached to that vendor.
1099 Reporting for Mid-Year Migration
If you completed migration during a fiscal year, your 1099 report will not be complete and the use of a Checks custom report or Vouchers custom report for historical paid vouchers will be required. Custom Reports offers additional guidance for creating and running a custom report. Include the following fields in the report:
- Profile ID
- Need 1099
- Name
- Legal Name
- Primary Address String
- Fedid
- Amount
- 1099 Tax Code
