Engagement Strategies allow you to group profiles based on a variety of criteria and then assign them to a single umbrella, that umbrella being the engagement strategy.
Engagement Strategies are a user-defined list that enables segmentation of a database for donor development and communication purposes. A single profile record may have multiple profile types, org roles, profile fund categories, opportunities, philanthropic interest types, etc. Unlike other user-defined fields used in profile segmentation, only one engagement strategy can be applied per profile.
This grouping allows you to easily prioritize and work with a defined group of people rather than having to repeatedly build custom lists based on a wide variety and combination of profile attributes.
Example
There is no limit to the number of engagement strategies that can be set up. The example below lists five. The top tier is the most important constituents based on the chosen criteria. Criteria could include, but is not limited to, giving history, capacity, and service roles like board members. The next three tiers segment more constituents based on similar criteria with different thresholds. The bottom tier is everyone in the database who did not qualify for a higher tier.
Engagement strategies that align with annual communications plans, fundraising strategies, or other initiatives within the organization can be developed. By grouping constituents into engagement strategies, communication lists can be pulled and opportunities based on one data point can be created. A sample communications plan which uses engagement strategies is outlined below.
Assign Engagement Strategies
After engagement strategies have been created, they can be assigned to profiles one at a time or in bulk.
Assign to One Profile
- Navigate to a profile and click Edit in the left side-menu.
- Select the Engagement Strategy from the drop-down menu, and then click Save.
Assign in Bulk
- Navigate to the Profiles page and click List in the left-side menu.
- Build a profiles filter report.
- Click Add To Engagement Strategy in the left-side menu.
- Click the name of the engagement strategy to be assigned to the list of profiles.
- Click [Yes].
Additional Information
- The same methods used to assign engagement strategies can be used to remove engagement strategies from profiles. Click Delete from Engagement Strategy after building a profiles report.
- A profile can only have one engagement strategy. When engagement strategies are bulk assigned, the engagement strategy being assigned will overwrite an engagement strategy that was already on the profile.
- After tier criteria has been developed and engagement strategy options have been set up, start assigning engagement strategies from the bottom, most inclusive tier and then work up tier by tier. This ensures that when a constituent meets criteria for more than one tier, they are in the highest tier for which they qualify.
