A fund beneficiary is an organization or another fund within the community foundation that receives a monetary distribution from the fund. Once a beneficiary has been added to a fund, it can be edited on the fund record to display additional information. Adding beneficiary relationships on a fund record is required to run the Create Spendable Grants functionality in the system.
Add Fund Beneficiaries
- Navigate to the Funds page.
- Enter the fund name in the Search Funds field and select the fund from the drop-down list.
- Alternatively, click List All in the left-side menu to view a list of all funds. Click the ID of the fund to which the beneficiary will be added.

- Click the Relationships tab.
- Click Add Beneficiary in the left-side menu.
- Enter the grantee or fund name in the appropriate Search field and select the Grantee or Fund from the drop-down list.
The beneficiary is listed on the fund record in the Relationships tab.
Edit Fund Beneficiaries
- Navigate to the Funds page.
- Enter the fund name in the Search Funds field and select the fund from the drop-down list.
- Alternatively, click List All in the left-side menu to view a list of all funds. Click the ID of the fund to be edited.

- Click the Relationships tab.
- Click Edit Beneficiary in the left-side menu.
- Enter a Description, select the general ledger expense Account that will be used to make spendable grants to this beneficiary, and then click Update.
- These are optional fields and if entered they override the description and account defaults in the create spendable grants process.
- If a fund only has one beneficiary, then that beneficiary will automatically receive 100% of the spending grant.
- Change that percent if needed so a portion of the spendable balance will be sent to the beneficiary and the remaining portion will stay in the spendable balance of the fund.
- If a fund has multiple beneficiaries, set each beneficiary's share of the spendable grant by percent to equal 100 if sending the totality of the spendable is the goal.
- A lower percent can be used if needed.
