The system's donation functionality can help foundations create, receive, and manage donations. Donations are given to a foundation often in the form of money. It is important to manage those donations properly.
Donations are tracked and managed using donation buckets. Buckets on the Donations page can help improve workflow and give an overall view of donations and their status. The following donation buckets exist:
- New - All unposted donations. This bucket may contain newly created donations or donation made through the Online Donation Portal.
- Posted - All posted donations.
-
Review - Donations that need to be reviewed. This bucket may be used to help identify profile duplicates and staff review.
-
This bucket may be removed or added in your Donations Settings.
-
- Receipt - Donations for which a tax receipt has not been sent.
- Tribute - Donations for which the tribute notifications have not been sent.
Donation Process
If your foundation received a donation that was not made in the Online Donation Portal, the donation will need to be created manually. All donations that are entered and have yet to be posted will appear in the New bucket on the Donations page. Once a donation is entered, donation records may be copied, posted, unposted, edited, and deleted.

Editable Fields on Donations
Some donation fields may only be edited when the donation status is unposted. Other donation fields have the same editing functionality for both unposted and posted donations.

Donation Types
Donation types determine where your donations are posted. The Donation Type field is required to enter a donation due to the designated post account that captures the payment information. Donation types can be added, edited, and deleted.

Refunds
If someone donated to your foundation using a payment method other than a credit card and it was recorded but now the money needs to be returned, you will need to process a donation refund.
