Tributes let donors dedicate a Giving Hub donation in honor of or in memory of someone, provided the Giving Hub and tributes are configured for that usage. Donors can search for an existing tribute record or enter new tribute information during the donation.
Who: Donor relations and gift processing staff managing tribute records, donor notifications, and tribute reporting.
When to Use the Giving Hub for Tributes
Donors may use the Giving Hub to enter a tribute in memory or in honor of someone to:
- Send a donation in lieu of flowers.
- Make a donation to the charity of choice listed in the obituary of the deceased.
- Support a retirement celebration campaign in honor of a coworker or community figure.
- Recognize the contributions of a group or person through donating to a cause they cared about.
Giving Hub Configuration for Public Tributes
All of the following settings must be configured for an existing tribute record to appear in the Giving Hub search:
- Search Public Tributes is enabled in Tributes Settings.
- The tribute record has a status of Public.
- At least one notify contact has been added to the tribute record.
- Memorials are available only when the No Memorials setting in Giving Hub settings for the donate tab is turned off. Make sure this box remains unchecked so donors can create or assign a tribute to a donation.
How Donors Search for an Existing Tribute
Donors can search for an existing tribute record on the Giving Hub after selecting a fund on the Giving Hub, then tribute options appear within the Donate area. Donors type the person's name into the Search Existing Tributes field and then selecting the appropriate tribute name. The list of tribute records that appear match the search term and are set to a Public status.
Once the donation is paid, the donation record in CommunitySuite will show the tribute record in the Tribute field.
How Donors Add a New Tribute
Donors can add a new tribute during a Giving Hub donation after selecting a fund on the Giving Hub, then tribute options appear within the Donate area. To create a new tribute record, donors will click Other Tribute which will activate the type of tribute to select. Selecting the Type of Tribute, In Memory of or In Honor of, will activate additional fields including the person being remembered/honored, whom to notify, and the method of notification.
Once the donation is paid, the donation record in CommunitySuite will show the tribute record in the Tribute field.
In the Tributes area, a new tribute record has been created with the non-profile notify contact added.
Review Tribute Records Created from the Giving Hub
Tribute records created through the Giving Hub appear the same as other tribute records in the list. In this example, the name of the tribute was altered to easily identify this as the tribute created from the Giving Hub. It is recommended to check the Tributes area regularly or after an active online campaign for new tribute records.
Send Tribute Notifications
CommunitySuite does not automatically send tribute notifications for online donations. It is recommended to establish a regular cadence for reviewing and processing tribute notifications, such as weekly or after each donation processing cycle, to ensure notifications are sent in a timely way.
Manage Duplicate Tribute Records
It is important to understand how online tribute creation from the Giving Hub can potentially create duplicate tributes and how to manage them. See Merge Duplicate Tributes for more information.
