Create, Edit, or Delete a Pledge/Promise

Creating charitable pledges and promises from donors allows you to track donor commitments and send payment reminders.

• Pledges have an impact on the general ledger. 
• Promises operate like pledges but do not have an impact on the general ledger.

The process to create a either a pledge or promise is largely the same. The instructions outline how to  create a pledge and call out two key differences for promises. Pledges and promises that have not been adjusted can be edited or deleted. If the pledge/promise is posted/committed, it must be unposted/uncommitted before editing or deleting.

Create a Pledge/Promise

1. Navigate to the Pledges/Promises page and click Create in the left-side menu.
2. Enter the profile name in the Choose Profile field and select the profile from the drop-down list.
3. Enter the applicable Add Pledge/Promise information, and then click Process.
   
    
4. Review the pledge and payment schedule, then click Post in the left-side menu.
   • If this is a promise, click Commit rather than Post.
5. If there are open opportunities associated with the profile, click [link] to link the pledge or promise to an opportunity.
   • The option to link a pledge with an opportunity will only display if the pledge has been posted. If the pledge is unposted, the opportunity will be un-linked from the pledge.
     
      

Edit a Pledge/Promise

1. Navigate to the Pledges/Promises page and click List Pledges or List Promises in the left-side menu.
2. Click the pledge/promise ID.
    
3. Click Edit or Edit Schedule in the left-side menu.
4. Make the applicable edits, and then click Save.
   • The amount cannot be decreased; it can only be increased.
     
      
   • If adjusting the pledge/promise amount, enter the applicable information in the Adjust Pledge Amount section.
     • Adjust Date - Date when the pledge amount is to be adjusted.
     • Adjust Account - Use if adjusting a pledge; select the applicable account.
       
        

Delete a Pledge/Promise

1.  
   1. Navigate to Pledges/Promises and click List Pledges or List Promises in the left-side menu.
   2. Click the ID number of the pledge/promise.
       
   3. Click Delete in the left-side menu.
      • The pledge/promise must be unposted for deletion to be an option.
