Donation types determine where your donations are posted. Follow the steps below to set donation types in your site.
- Navigate to the Donations page.
- Click Donation Types from the left-side menu.
- There are three donation posting account options.
- Manual (choose for each donation) - Check the box next to Manual to choose a revenue account for each donation. When this option is selected, the revenue account field will display on donation records and must be populated in order to post the donation.
- Donation Types (post using donation types) - Create donation types and link them to an account. Donations that are assigned a donation type will post to the account that the donation type is linked to. Selecting a donation type on the donation record will define what general ledger revenue account is credited as well as provide a category for donation reporting.
- To create donation types, click Edit from the left-side menu.
- In the Donation Types table, enter the name of your donation type and click Create.
- Repeat these steps until all of your donation types have been created and then click Back in the left-side menu.
- For each donation type, use the drop-down to set the post account.
- Single Account (post to a single account) - Post all donations to one account from your chart of accounts (this is the default option). If posting to a single account is the only selection populated in the Donation Posting Account Options table, then all donations will post to the account selected.
- No donation type or revenue account field will display on the donation record itself.
- No donation type or revenue account field will display on the donation record itself.
- Manual (choose for each donation) - Check the box next to Manual to choose a revenue account for each donation. When this option is selected, the revenue account field will display on donation records and must be populated in order to post the donation.
4. Click Update once you've completed changes to all applicable donation posting account options.
Donation types are helpful when they reflect the items you report in your 990 form.
